All students, including English language learners (ELL) and those with dyslexia, benefit from explicit, systematic, and multisensory reading instruction that is grounded in research. At Reading Horizons, we’ve continuously followed the science of reading for nearly 40 years to provide a program that is simple for teachers to implement and helps all students build the foundational reading skills they need to reach their full potential.

Reading Horizons aligns with Florida’s B.E.S.T. ELA Standards for foundational reading skills in each grade K–12.

Case Study

Miami-Dade County Public Schools Case Study

In Fall 2021, Miami-Dade County Public Schools implemented the Reading Horizons Discovery® and Reading Horizons Elevate® programs across all kindergarten through fifth-grade classrooms. Teachers embraced the programs and resoundingly expressed that they felt the curriculum was excellent. Teachers of ESOL students, in particular, commented on how effective the programs were for their students.

By the end of the year, there were significant gains in fourth- and fifth-graders’ Lexile® levels, which greatly improved their ability to work in connected text.

There is no greater joy than seeing students read! Reading Horizons brings excitement and engagement to the classroom by employing evidence-based strategies and practices to teaching foundational skills that help students read. The program is based on the science of reading and uses explicit, systematic, and multisensory instructional routines. In Miami-Dade, students get excited when it’s time for reading intervention because they become “active participants” in applying the unique coding system as part of the Daily Core 4 to decode and read words and text. The entire framework makes learning fun and enjoyable for students receiving reading intervention!

Foundational Literacy for Older Students: Catching Up. Keeping Up. Moving Ahead.

Nearly 66% of fourth- and eighth-grade learners perform below proficient achievement levels in reading. For students grades 4 and beyond who struggle with reading, the path ahead can be difficult and discouraging. For striving readers, newcomers, and students with special needs, we can do more and do it better. And that’s the focus of this edWebinar.
